Onur Selcuk
For Onur Selcuk, one path in life was not what he was cut out to follow, he chose to float over the surface and reached out for things that made life more desirable than "work-till-you-die-and-pay-bills" scheme. Raised in a rural, small town Malatya in Turkey up until the age of 11, the city limits were first crossed when he attended TED Ankara College in the capital city. The music was already playing, in school chorus, in poems he wrote out of desperation in history classes. He studied Management in Bilkent University, now fully separated campus life with composing music, taking photographs, recording in studios, ultimately in his 3rd year taking the lead role in theater stage. Weekends were good for state conservatory voice department, and he was in no rush, he was already copy writing at ad agencies. 5 years of university eventually shrunk Ankara like an old sweater on him and he ran away, all the way to Los Angeles, CA. He dug deeper into advertising at UCLA, along with his other thing, Film and Television. He got an MBA degree from Woodbury University, meanwhile shot a short movie, eventually began working in Hollywood's soundstages, making TV commercials. Then a friend from New York intervened, he moved on one more time. Grown up years with jacket and tie, a software company job, and the beat of the city of all cities added more to the deviation. Then came the Juilliard School where he's picking up from where he left with singing. Then back the theater, Turkish American Art Society of New York, a play in production, a role in a short film, a consolidation of his music for next year. He is currently collaborating with Gulcin Hatihan on a few new things. He is very serious in not taking one thing too seriously, as he believes life is short, and it's good to entertain people when you can.
